what is bouldering?

bouldering is shorter, lower level climbing that doesn’t use ropes or harnesses but instead has bouldering mats to prevent injuries from falls.

we climb by following a particular hold colour and using only that colour to climb to the top.

an indoor climb is completed by placing both hands on the finish hold.

what do i need to get started?

you only need a pair of climbing shoes and some climbing chalk. both of these can be hired from reception if you don’t have them already. wear comfortable or loose (but not baggy) clothing - anything you might wear to the gym.

do i need to book a time slot?

yes, please book a designated 2 hour climbing slot before arrival. walk ins are welcome but to avoid disappointment it’s advisable to book in advance.

who can climb at rock punk?

we welcome climbers of all levels of expertise from complete beginners to the very experienced.

for all ages 6 and up. ages 6 - 14 can only climb off-peak (from 10am until 6pm)

ALL children in the centre must be supervised by an adult unless they have been assessed by the management and registered for unsupervised climbing.

Age 6-7 each child MUST be supervised on the mats 1:1 by an adult who is an Experienced climber.

Age 8-11 each child MUST be supervised on the mats 1:1 by an adult.

Age 12-15 must have at least one adult present for up to three children.

Age 16-17 will need an adult present for their first session and then may climb unsupervised after a competency assessment.

what grading system do we use?

indoor climbing grades are very subjective (and often bemoaned), as such, we use a unique system whereby routes are grouped into 3 broad categories from accessible to challenging.

blue taped routes are the lowest grade range, red tapes are mid grade and black tapes are the upper grade range.

ultimately there are 2 grades: climbs you can do - and climbs you can’t do … yet

can i cancel a booked time slot?

bookings can be cancelled up to 6 hours prior to your time slot and re-arranged.

no refunds will be given if a slot is cancelled less than 6 hours before your allotted time slot .
